PlateCost is a foodcost calculator for chefs and kitchens. We built it to be private by default. This policy explains, in plain words, what happens with your data.
Your recipes stay on your device
The dishes, ingredients, prices and preparations you enter are stored locally on your own device (in the app’s local storage). They are not uploaded to us and we cannot see them. Deleting the app removes this data.
Optional account (sync)
On the web version you can optionally create an account to sync your data between your own devices. This is entirely optional; without an account the app works fully offline. If you create one, we store only your email address and your recipe data so we can sync it back to you. You can sign out or delete your account at any time. When you delete a dish, it is kept in a trash for 30 days (so you can undo it) before being permanently removed; if you use an account, that trash syncs between your devices like the rest of your data.
AI helper
Some features (weighing a kitchen unit such as “1 tbsp of honey”, or suggesting allergens) send the ingredient or recipe text you typed to our own server, which forwards it to an AI provider to compute the answer. Only that text is sent — no name, email or account is attached. The text is used only to return the result and is not used to build a profile of you. The same applies to photos or files you upload for the price-list or cost-sheet import: they are sent only to read them, are not stored afterwards, and carry no name, email or account. That includes a photo you take of a recipe card from inside a dish or prep you have open — the same route, and the photo is never kept, not even briefly after a failed attempt.
The AI cost-price expert (“Sous”) works differently: it only sends anything the moment you tap a question or open the chat yourself — never automatically or in the background. At that moment it sends a short summary of your menu (your green/orange/red thresholds, how many dishes fall in each, your average food cost %, your VAT rate settings, and — if you've set one — your business type, e.g. “fine dining”) plus the name, food cost %, cost price and sell price of up to 15 of your highest food-cost dishes, so it can answer sensibly. If you have a dish open, it also sends that dish's own VAT rate and its full ingredient list — including the cost and the percentage share of the dish's cost price for each line. No name, email or account is attached to any of this either.
No tracking, no ads
We do not use advertising, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data. There is no third-party analytics or tracking SDK in the app.
The app does send our own server a handful of anonymous daily counters (for example “the app was opened today” or “a price list was imported”) so we can see whether PlateCost is being used at all. These pings contain no identifier — no device ID, no account, no stored IP address — and cannot be linked to you.
To prevent abuse of PlateCost's AI features (Sous, imports, and the portion, price, allergen and speech-input helpers), the app uses a random, anonymous counter on your device; it does not identify you and is not used for anything else.
Every question you ask Sous is classified into a topic on our server (for example “VAT”, “portions” or “losses”) and that topic is counted anonymously — even for an ordinary question Sous answers just fine. If Sous can't answer, or when you use “Anything missing? Tell Sous” or answer the occasional feedback question, we also anonymously store the topic, your app language and country, and any free text you type — never your name, email, account, IP address or device identifier — so we can improve the app.

PlateCost is een kostprijs-calculator voor chefs en keukens. De app is standaard privé. Deze verklaring legt in gewone taal uit wat er met je gegevens gebeurt.
Je recepten blijven op je apparaat
De gerechten, ingrediënten, prijzen en bereidingen die je invoert worden lokaal op je eigen apparaat bewaard (in de lokale opslag van de app). Ze worden niet naar ons geüpload en wij kunnen ze niet inzien. De app verwijderen wist deze gegevens.
Optioneel account (synchronisatie)
In de webversie kun je optioneel een account aanmaken om je gegevens tussen je eigen apparaten te synchroniseren. Dit is volledig optioneel; zonder account werkt de app volledig offline. Maak je er wel een aan, dan bewaren we alleen je e-mailadres en je receptgegevens om die naar je terug te synchroniseren. Je kunt altijd uitloggen of je account verwijderen. Verwijder je een gerecht, dan blijft dat 30 dagen in een prullenbak staan (zodat je het kunt terugzetten) voordat het definitief weg is; gebruik je een account, dan synchroniseert die prullenbak mee tussen je apparaten, net als de rest van je gegevens.
AI-hulp
Sommige functies (het wegen van een keuken-eenheid zoals “1 eetlepel honing”, of het voorstellen van allergenen) sturen de ingrediënt- of receptregel die je typte naar onze eigen server, die deze doorstuurt naar een AI-dienst om het antwoord te berekenen. Alleen die tekst wordt verstuurd — er gaat geen naam, e-mail of account mee. De tekst wordt alleen gebruikt om het resultaat terug te geven, niet om een profiel van je op te bouwen. Hetzelfde geldt voor foto's of bestanden die je uploadt voor de prijslijst- of kostprijssheet-import: die worden alleen gestuurd om ze te lezen, daarna niet bewaard, en er gaat geen naam, e-mail of account mee. Dat geldt ook voor een foto die je van je receptkaart maakt vanuit een gerecht of bereiding die je open hebt staan — dezelfde route, en de foto wordt nooit bewaard, ook niet even na een mislukte poging.
De AI-kostprijsexpert (“Sous”) werkt anders: er gaat pas iets naartoe op het moment dat je zelf op een vraag tikt of het gesprek opent — nooit automatisch of op de achtergrond. Op dat moment stuurt de app een korte samenvatting van je kaart (je groen/ oranje/rood-grenzen, hoeveel gerechten in elke groep vallen, je gemiddelde foodcost%, je btw-instellingen en — als je 'm hebt ingesteld — je soort zaak, bijv. “fine dining”) plus de naam, foodcost%, kostprijs en verkoopprijs van tot 15 van je duurste gerechten, zodat hij zinnig kan antwoorden. Heb je een gerecht open staan, dan stuurt de app ook het btw-tarief van dát gerecht mee en de volledige ingrediëntenlijst — inclusief het bedrag en het aandeel in de kostprijs per regel. Ook hier gaat geen naam, e-mail of account mee.
Geen tracking, geen advertenties
We gebruiken geen advertenties, we volgen je niet over andere apps of websites, en we verkopen je gegevens niet. Er zit geen externe analytics- of tracking-SDK in de app.
De app stuurt wel een handvol anonieme dagtellers naar onze eigen server (bijvoorbeeld “de app is vandaag geopend” of “er is een prijslijst geïmporteerd”), zodat we kunnen zien óf PlateCost überhaupt gebruikt wordt. Die tellingen bevatten geen enkele identifier — geen apparaat-ID, geen account, geen opgeslagen IP-adres — en zijn niet tot jou te herleiden.
Om misbruik van de AI-functies van PlateCost te voorkomen (Sous, imports, en de portie-, prijs-, allergenen- en spraakhulp), gebruikt de app een willekeurige, anonieme teller op je toestel; die identificeert jou niet en wordt nergens anders voor gebruikt.
Van elke vraag die je aan Sous stelt, delen we het onderwerp server-side in (bijvoorbeeld “btw”, “porties” of “verlies”) en dat onderwerp tellen we anoniem — ook bij een gewone vraag die Sous prima beantwoordt. Als Sous iets niet weet, of als je “Iets missen? Zeg het Sous” gebruikt of de incidentele feedbackvraag beantwoordt, slaan we daarnaast het onderwerp, je apptaal en -land, en de vrije tekst die je typt anoniem op — nooit met je naam, e-mailadres, account, IP-adres of apparaat-ID — zodat we de app kunnen verbeteren.

Deutsch: Von jeder Frage, die du Sous stellst, wird das Thema serverseitig eingeordnet (z. B. „Mehrwertsteuer“, „Portionen“ oder „Verlust“) und anonym gezählt — auch bei einer gewöhnlichen Frage, die Sous problemlos beantwortet. Wenn Sous etwas nicht weiß, oder wenn du „Fehlt etwas? Sag es Sous“ nutzt oder die gelegentliche Feedback-Frage beantwortest, speichern wir zusätzlich das Thema, deine App-Sprache und dein Land sowie einen eingegebenen freien Text anonym — nie mit deinem Namen, deiner E-Mail-Adresse, deinem Konto, deiner IP-Adresse oder einer Gerätekennung — damit wir die App verbessern können.
